The Benchmark Assessment
The Benchmark takes around three hours. We start with physical capability, then add recovery or internal health context if it will help explain the picture. You leave with clear priorities and a 90-day focus.
The process
Most people skip straight to action. The Benchmark slows that down just enough to make the next step make sense.
Get a clear picture of where you are today. What your body can do, what might be holding it back, and what the numbers actually say.
Not everything needs attention at once. We work out what matters most right now.
You leave with a 90-day focus. What to work on, why it matters, and how to start.
Strength is your ability to produce force. More importantly, it shows whether you can produce it evenly on both sides. Imbalances between left and right are often invisible until they cause a problem.
We test three movements across key muscle groups, looking at how much force you can generate and how quickly you can get there.
Strength declines faster than most people expect, and it doesn't decline evenly. The side-to-side data is often the most actionable result in the whole assessment. Knowing where the gap is means you can actually close it.
Rate of force development tells us how quickly you can reach peak force. That matters more in real life than peak force alone. Slow RFD means the strength is there, but it can't be expressed fast enough when it counts.
Power is the rate at which you can produce force. Strength expressed quickly. It's one of the first physical qualities to decline with age, and one of the most important to maintain.
We measure it in two ways. A maximal 6-second bike sprint gives us peak and relative power output. Jump testing, a squat jump and a countermovement jump, tells us something different: how well you convert force into elastic, reactive movement.
The bike sprint gives us raw power. The jump data gives us something harder to train without knowing about it: the ability to use elastic energy. When your squat jump outperforms your countermovement jump, it tells us force production is there but reactive capacity isn't. That's a specific gap, and a very trainable one.
Watts per kilo gives us a relative number that's independent of bodyweight. That is the most useful metric for tracking real change over time.
Your engine is your cardiorespiratory fitness: how well your heart, lungs and muscles work together under demand. A bigger, more efficient engine means you can do more, recover faster and handle sustained effort without breaking down.
We run two tests. A maximal effort gives us VO2 peak and how well your system performs at the limit. A metabolic profile test gives us your Zone 2 threshold and fat oxidation data: how efficiently your body uses fuel at different intensities.
VO2 peak is one of the strongest single predictors of long-term health outcomes. It's also very trainable, which makes knowing your number worth something.
The Zone 2 data tells us where your aerobic efficiency lives and how wide that window is. A narrow Zone 2 range means your engine becomes less efficient sooner than it should as intensity increases. Zone 2 training is the most effective way to expand it, but only if you know where your Zone 2 actually is.
Metabolic analysis is carried out using technology developed in partnership with SplendoHealth, founded with Duke University School of Medicine.
Movement quality is how well your body handles load, range of motion and stability. It's the most commonly skipped pillar, and often the one that limits everything else.
We assess posture, overhead squat, lunge pattern and a three-stage balance protocol. Each reveals something different about how you move and where the weak links are.
You can be strong and powerful and still move badly. Bad movement patterns under load eventually become injury. The movement screen identifies compensation patterns before they become problems.
Balance, particularly on a single leg, is one of the earlier indicators of neurological decline. The three-stage protocol gives us a meaningful baseline that's worth tracking over time.
The three layers
Capability is the foundation. Recovery and internal health sit around it. Not everyone needs every layer. The point is to understand what matters most.
Firstbeat and blood testing are supporting tools, not headline products. We use them when they help explain what is going on.
