Not The Comfort Zone Challenge Days

Do something you are not certain you can do.

Not a race. Not a punishment session. A difficult, well-run experience with enough uncertainty to mean something when you finish.

Why challenge belongs here

A finish that means something.

I have seen people reach the top of their first mountain and stand differently.

At Corrour, the landscape and the scale of the day mattered. Nobody needed a military back story or somebody shouting at them.

They had walked further and climbed higher than they believed they could, helped one another when it became difficult and reached a finish that was unmistakably real.

You cannot manufacture that feeling with arbitrary suffering.

What it should feel like

Hard enough to matter. Well run enough to trust.

The aim is a genuine moment of “I did not know I could do that”. Fitness matters, but the day should not be won by the fittest person while everybody else trails behind.

01A real reasonThe difficulty belongs to the task. No hill repetitions added because misery looks good on camera.
02Proper preparationYou know how to get ready and what the day may ask of you. Uncertainty is not the same as carelessness.
03Your version of hardThe demand can scale without turning the event into a lesser experience for somebody newer.
04Other people matterThere are moments you must deal with yourself and moments when the group only progresses together.
05A proper endingWarm up, eat, come down and talk about what happened before everyone drives home.

Small-group events

The next event is being developed, not dressed up before it is ready.

I am looking at a winter walking and underground challenge for a small mixed-ability group. The route, provider, warm finish and purpose all have to work before I ask anybody to pay for it.

If you want to hear when it is real, join the community or get in touch.
